People are homeless for many reasons. Mental illness, hopelessness, breaks from their families. Some, believe it or not, are there out of choice. And, there are those who "fake" it (I've seen it, they have their homeless garb and then, when their work day is over, they get in their car and go home).

I don't know what category she was in, but prayer never hurt anyone.

I would refrain from calling the red haired woman a bag lady or bag girl. She is probably a very lost soul. Someone threw her away a very long time ago and this is the only life she knows. It is very sad but you can keep her in your prayers if you pray or every now and again think of her and wish her kind thoughts. Or you can try to find her and give her a blanket or something kind. Afterall, she was once a tiny baby, loved by many and once upon a time, she probably had very big dreams like we all do. I'll pray for her tonight. Thanks for mentioning her.

i'm pretty sure she's either not happy or mentally ill - not that those things are mutually exclusive ... it is amazing how the homeless can survive though - i myself am way beyond spoiled with my creature comforts
