Home Front Update

I don’t have a lot of news really, but I wanted to update you guys anyway. My grandma and uncle are still in N.O. and are doing ok. I’ve heard that they may be letting people back into my area of the city starting tomorrow to gather remaining personal belongings but that’s not confirmed. I can imagine that the moment they announce that any road is open going in it will immediately become inundated with travelers and sightseers and the traffic will be a bumper to bumper crawl for hours on end. That doesn’t sound very inviting. I was talking to my mom yesterday and I think they’ve decided to forego heading back for now until there is power and water. My brother and family who are staying at friends in Baton Rouge still do not have power at their home in the Hammond, La. area so they are holding tight as well.

I may be heading back up to Dallas, Tx. in the next day or two to rejoin my family and then go from there, playing it by ear, subject to the living conditions at the house. For now I’m safe and healthy and Maggie has been a wonderful hostess along with the love and attentions of her two really cool dogs and of course the horses! Having your own parking spot is pretty damn nice too!

I had been working on this new template for weeks in my spare time before the storm, I’m glad I had it saved on the ‘net where I could transfer it over to here. That’s not the really cool, super creepy animated header that I was working on though, that one is on my PC at the house. I threw this one together rather quickly this morning just so that there would be something to match the template.

I’ve finally gotten to do some blog commenting in the past couple days but I haven’t been able to hit everyone, I’m not ignoring you!! Thank you all for the way cool comments and I’ll try to visit everyone as time (and internet connection, LOL) permits!! Hugs!!!

I’m glad you and Magz are having a good time. Sending my best to your gram and uncle. Be safe going to Texas. If you find yourself way north, in Illinois, you can park that little horse of yours right on my couch. ;) Lois Lane

  14. Vickie Said:

Just so damn glad the Bitch Katrina did not get her hands on YOU!! I know you like them wild and can ride’em taming them as you go but this one seemed to be one not to be tamed at the hands of humans or by the bite of animals she controlled all. Glad you listened to her voice and chose to look to Maggie instead….Now make certain you do not return until you have been told it is SAFE for YOU to do so and you know what I mean Seven. I am concerned with the medication you take that you might need to be away longer please check with a transplant physician. I would hate for you to have come this far to go back now and catch some infectious disease you do not need. Listen to me now sweet thing…Please.

Yeah, yahoo news said the roads were jammed for areas that people were being allowed reentry. I guess if there is not some use to go back immediately, it might be good to wait a bit and let the traffic settle. Hopefully there won’t be time limits on when you can go back. I was watching BBC news today and they said there were still areas were not everyone has even gotten help yet. The BBC was in there with their boat helping people escape from their homes. Their stories were too horrible to recount. It will be such a relief when the water goes back down.

  19. Jeanette Said:

Umm, wow, Seven. That picture shows a whole new side of you.
Oh. That’s your ride. My mistake.
    (hug)

  20. schnoodlepooh Said:

Your parking spot is very cool. You’re a changed hombre, seven, you’re a cowpoke now! :) ;)

  21. Jack Said:

Se7en, here’s what I know: Jefferson Parish was opened to residents today from 6am to 6pm, and will be opened Tues, Wed, and Thurs daytime only…6 to 6. Must show an ID with local adress to get in, and yes, the lines are longgggg. It takes hours. Jefferson has no power or water. Many trees are still down and many roads are blocked. Dusk to dawn curfews are in effect everywhere and yes they are making arrests. St. Charles parish is in the best shape in that area, but is still without power in many places. They are the staging area for relief efforts into NO. There are checkpoints on all roads in the parish, however all roads are passable and they will let you pass thru to Jefferson Parish. St Benard parish is still cut off…the bridges into there are down and the place is a wreck…its totalled. As Monday afternoon, NOBODY except feds, military, cops or press was being allowed into New Orleans itself. NO exceptions. I was told that they were gonna kep it sealed for as long as it took to clean up the bodies. If you have any ?, leave me a comment and I’ll tell you what I know or try and find out. Good luck.

  22. tCj Said:

And you WILL be seeing me while your here in dallas, right?

New template looks coolioz. You do great work :) yup yup
*wonders when she’ll get around to ordering new template*

  23. Julie Said:

So does the horse come with the parking space?

I’m liking the new template…and also the news that your grandma and uncle are okay (I was out of blogville for the weekend).

    I owe you an email!

  24. Old Horsetail Snake Said:

This is right smart purty, Se7en. Rates a triple *poink*. Thanks for keeping us posted.

  25. E-Lo Said:

Nice template. And even better parking spot. Tell that horse to get out of there! ;)

  26. Jack Said:

Forgot to mention that authorities are telling people that are coming in to bring what they will need with them. Gas is in very short supply, most stores are not opening or are out of stock on everything, and the only resturaunt in St Charles Parish open was Papa john’s. Bring anything you might think you’ll need, because you probably won’t be able to get it there.

  27. Cootera Said:

LOVE the new template! Geesh, mister… got a little time on your hands at the farm? Maggie’s not making ya dig postholes? ;)
Anyway, I’m glad you’re there and that you’re safe. And also that Jack is down there and can give you updates.

    Poink!!

  28. RaisingOrleans Said:

Glad your family is good…the beer and nachos chick told me you were from there so i came to check out your site.

  29. CrazyRideLady Said:

I’m so glad to hear you are alright. I spent the last week on my back recovering and I wasn’t able to get to the computer, so there I lay, seeing NO on the TV, worrying if you were all right and there was nothing I could do. Being helpless sucks! Again, I’m SO GLAD to hear you and your’s are all OK.

  30. Kristin Said:

Oh no your NOT going to come to this state and not visit. C’mon man…….I’m just a wee bit south of Dallas.

  31. Dawn Said:

Very cool design !! I am glad that you are still safe. I don’t know if I would want to go and look. Would be too many bad memories.

  32. Karen Said:

I can imagine traffic will be horrible. I’m glad you all are safe and sound though.

Sounds like you’re having a great time!

    Take care! *hugs*

  33. char Said:

I’m glad to hear that everything is ok with you! We are always worried!

  34. Anonymous Said:

Hi, Mom again. Love your reserved parking spot. I know you are enjoying the dogs, and Maggie is a jewel to have you.
    Love Mom

  35. LisaBinDaCity Said:

    LOVE the assigned parking spot!!!

Glad all is well Hon :-)

  36. Boo Said:

Your new look is so….gothic. Very fitting as we head into Fall and Halloween time. I know you’ll change it a few times before then but you should definitely save this one.

If you need a place to camp out, I have extra room in my king size bed ;) I realize it would be culture shock in spades but wouldn’t it be fun?

  37. Sol Said:

I like the new layout.. I’m also glad you and your family are safe. I wish you the best and enjoy the horse. Wish I could have one here, pesky zoning rules and all.

  38. Aimee Said:

    ((thinking of you))
