Long Overdue

You’ve probably been wondering where the hell I’ve been, but I’m still around! Just been very, very busy. About the only thing I have to update you guys on is the progress on the house since Katrina. It’s coming along pretty good now as you can see from the photos below, the folks may be able to move back into it within the next few months. Yes, they’re living in the FEMA trailer out in the front yard! Talk about cramped living space, omg it’s just tiny. Right now they’re having trouble getting somone to come out and do repairs on it, the floor near the bathroom is rotten and about to fall through because of a water leak.

This photo was taken right after the sheetrock was all pulled out not long after Katrina

Here’s the same camera angle shot today, now with sheetrock! Amazing huh?

Here’s a good shot showing how high the house and slab was raised, the A/C unit is on stilts!

And the new deck in the rear looks great!

Anyway, Mardi Gras season has come and gone and I didn’t bother to attend any of the parades. I guess after you’re seen hundreds of them it gets to be the same old, same old. Know what I mean? And besides, if you’ve seen one throng of drunken tourists stumbling down Bourbon St, you’ve seen them all. LOL

I’ve pretty much settled into the house I’m renting, love the place actually. It’s nice, quiet and cozy. I built my mom a new PC for Christmas, she seems to like it much better than the old one which was running Win 98, this one runs XP. The new one is 3 times faster and has lots of cool features the old one doesn’t. My mom is pretty good with her computer, amazes me sometimes with the stuff she knows how to do.

Sometimes though she cracks me up. Today she called and said her email wasn’t working and if I knew what was wrong. After asking her a couple questions it was obvious she didn’t have an internet connection. When I asked her if she could view any web pages she told me the internet was disconnected because the workers were putting in new sheetrock upstairs. Well mom, I think that might just be the problem! You must have an internet connection to receive emails, lol. Love you mom! (She reads my blog)

Well folks that’s all I got, hope you and yours have been fine and I’ll be stopping by to see how ya’ll are! Take care and be good!!

    Progress is good!

Your mom cracks me up! Of course, I deal with people like that every day but it makes for some great stories.

  2. Seamus Said:

At least there is progress. I know they’ll be elated to move back into a larger space.

  3. PandoraWilde Said:

Well, it’s better than no progress, but hopefully the work will get done before the trailer gives out.

“Long Overdue” aka “It’s About Freakin’ Time” ;-)
I’m so pleased about the house! Hugs to you and your Mom.

Long overdue is right. Three-four more years and everything will be almost normal, and ready for the next hurricane. Hoo boy, the gummit do move slow.

  6. Laurie Said:

    Woo hooo! Oh, “Hi, mom!”

  7. Sophmom Said:

Yeah, Snake, “the gummit do move slow,” but next hurricane, they’ll be in a raised house (and the levees ought to hold better now that some of their serious flaws have been addressed).

I have lots of friends in FEMA trailers and nobody all of them have had about enough of that good time. I cannot imagine!

My Mom gets confused about “the email” as opposed to “the internet”. She’s so busy declaring that she knows all about it that it keeps her from learning anything. The one thing I keep telling her is that if she’ll look hard enough, the directions are generally somewhere on the screen but she thinking I’m lying about that.

Good to hear from you. Take care.

Finally, progress, sorta. I watched a TV show on The History Channel about the extensive tunnel system the Japanese have to protect Tokyo from flooding, since a majority of the city lies below sea level, just like New Orleans. I think the US could learn a lot from the Japanese. It was pretty amazing!

My mom has a lot of computer problems - normally classified as “user error.” LOL!

OMG, it HAS been a long time. Sounds like things are really taking shape over there. Hope you are well. Sending hugs from this neck of the woods!

Amazing how some hard work makes things come together. I’m glad I popped by here, linked from another page.

I’ve been to MardiGras a few times. Love New Orleans for sure, but not enough to come back during the big party.

I like to come kick it around JazzFest time. Much less intense, if there is such a thing.

Happy to see progress is being made!

My Mom is savy on the computer too, who knew?

Hope things are better for you my friend.

  12. Sexy Sadie Said:

Seems like you are doing well. Great it is!

Nanner, I watched that, too! It was fascinating! Se7, glad the house is coming along… it’s about freakin’ time more progress was made on it!!

Another new post is “way overdue” as well ;-)
