Ready for the Apocalypse?
I’m feeling much, much better since my surgery. I still have some mild pain when I move around, enough to make me wince occasionally but it’s bearable. I can’t say much for the scar, it’s going to be one of my uglier ones I think. Not that any of them look great or anything like that, but you know what I mean. But enough about that, here’s some news you can use!
Those who’ve been following the two plus year saga of life after Katrina will be amazed to hear that work has actually begun on repairing the folks house. Lo and behold, FEMA waves it’s mighty, magical bureacratic powers in the breeze for what seems like an eternity and stuff actually gets done. Are you amazed or what? What, you don’t believe me? I actually have photographic proof of this strange and unusual phenomenon in action.
Here’s what one of the holes looks like that they’re digging to be able to reach the pilings under the house to get it jacked up. It’s going to be raised 3 feet off the ground and it will take about 6 weeks.

Of course the interior still looks like this, but hey, what do you want? It’s only been two years! Give the govmint a chance will ya! They’re giving it their best!

Of course my mom is ecstatic now that work has begun in earnest. All the planning she’s been doing on the interior is now going to become a reality, she get’s to redecorate the entire interior with all new stuff. It’s going to be a nice home once again, one of these days…
Hope you guys are having a good weekend!!!

Only two years, eh? Wow, that’s pretty darned fast so the wheels of government to turn in the right direction! Sad, ain’t it? Have they given your folks any idea when they might expect for them to be done?
Chicks dig guys with ugly scars.
I hope you are feeling 100% in no time! I feel privilaged to be able to witness this strange phenomenon. Just imagine, if they can dig such round holes in TWO years, what may happen in year THREE?! Fuckers! Well, I’m glad the folks home is finally on the mend.
I’m glad you are starting to feel better.
Wow, the government is actually moving? Will wonders never cease?
I love the smell of napalm in the morning…
Oops! Wrong Apocalypse
I think I’d be too pissed at this point to be excited.
Glad you are feeling better. E-mail me if you’re up to some blog re-designing. I’m feeling the need for change ; )
I’m glad you’re feelin’ better!
And holy shit, say it ain’t so! Are they figuring on another couple years
Just droppin’ in to wish you a happy gobble gobble!!
Glad you are feeling better! Surgery on you and surgery on the house. 3 feet? Does that mean you’ll have a scenic view?
Happy Turkey Day!
Happy Man Day
Wow, progress… slow progress, for you and the house. Happy Turkey Day, hope it was a good one!
Wow! Hearty congratulations on the progress! My blogger friend Ray has a post up talking about how he’s seeing rebuilding popping up all over the place. He also features (another blogger friend) Morwen’s house (with pictures) saying, ‘I have never seen a bigger “FUCK YOU” to the Federal flood and all floods that may follow it than Morwen’s castle, currently being reborn in Gentilly.’ I’m not sure if I can post HTML but I’m going to try: here.
Good to hear you’re feeling better. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Two years? I am surprised they can dig under the house with the water table so low.
I hope you are feeling better. Hopefully the next time I am in NO we can hook up and tell lies…scuse me…stories to each other.
happy healing, sweetness
your positive attitude continues to amaze me.
My sister finally sold her Hurricane Rita damaged/finally repaired, house. Who would have ever thought that all of this would take 2 years?
Well, who knew you lived in NOLA! I actually lived in Bay St. Louis / Waveland for four years until 1996. Even though I didn’t live through it, Katrina ripped out a piece of my soul too. The Gulf Coast is a place so amazing and there’s no place like it anywhere on earth.
I spent time tonight clearing the blog of some junk. I’ll try to get those photos to you tomorrow. I’m excited about my “re-do”. Good luck to your folks and their home. FEMA’s about a piece of shit aren’t they?
BTW…I LOVE THESE LITTLE “quotations” around the comments, I want that
